So, it was 2009 when I managed to open my Facebook account. Most of my close friends were still using the now almost dead orkut. I too was an orkut loyal till then, but wanted some change from the regular forum debates, scraps, etc. and facebook looked something of a change back then. To be honest it took me a lotta time to get used to it. The interface, the chats and all were very different from what I was used to.
I used all the time I was alone to get the hang of it. Then invited most of my friends over to it just for fun. Most of the close friends liked it, but the ones from orkut hated the then facebook as it didn't have any communities. Though now, every one of them has switched over. Over the time, each and every one of us accepted facebook or I can say FB as a part of our lives. At least the current generation.
The only thing no one seems to accept is the FB chat (LOL).The simplest of things that turned out a major fault. But well, I'm not writing this to curse the chat, but to describe the various chats I had with my friends over these years.
Well, there are various chats you have once you are a part of the social network. The first kind is the easiest and done on a huge scale i.e. TROLLING. Trolling is not just 'Being a prick on the internet because you can' as described by the urban dictionary, it's more of an art .Not everyone on the internet can troll, just like not everyone can draw. Trolling when done properly on a social network site can surely make you famous, as there are the other kinds who love the people who troll.
I myself have had huge trolling conversations with my friends where either one of us was at the receiving ends. The next type is which for me is a directly opposite of trolling. I call it the PHILOSOPHICAL chat wherein people chat about various philosophical topics and I can assure you its super boring for the normal kind, though it is sometimes interesting to be a part of it.
Next in line is the POSER chat where people try as hard as they can to show how (un)cool they are. The very beginning of such chat starts with the poser posing like a DUDE and ending at him being "PWNED".I have for the most of the time found myself away from such conversations.
Next comes the Music chats, these are the most varied kind of chats one can come across, as they have an element of every kind of chat: trolls, posers, nOObs, etc, etc. very rarely one comes across a really good music conversation that doesn't lead to abusing of each other's favorite bands'. I have to admit that I myself being a music fan and an IRON MAIDEN fanboi (oow yeah) have been at the receiving and giving ends.
The OTAKU chat comes next. Those who are wondering what otaku means it's a Japanese term used for people obsessed with anime(for those who don't know, anime and cartoons are not the same), and I had my fare share of otaku chats in orkut as well as in facebook. These can be really entertaining as you can even see people over 24-25 being in it. It also has these huge debates over which anime is the best and which SUX.
GEEK/NERD chat is what I call it when people cannot use normal language to say how good a particular PC is, or maybe why their favorite game is the best of all out there. Oww, and there is also this POETIC thing going on somewhere in the middle, where a guy writes pathetic poetry on his status to express his love, sadness because of some good –for-nothing chick, you may think it is not-so-good, but wait, others like him (people who need-to-get-a-life) love it so much that they can have a discussion with 150 comments over it.
With this there are also the LOVEBIRD chats where a guy/girl expresses how much his/her partner means to them, and all the poet kind LIKE it. It always amuses me why the poets like it when a girl writes "Luv u baby" on her status. Do they think it's for them? Or is it that they want someone to say it to them too?
Well, amidst these various kinds of chats, there is one special kind that I share with a close friend. We call it the "NIGHT MODE" chat. As the name suggests, this happens only at night, when we done and dusted with the day and the above mentioned chats. It is the time to loosen up all those strings wound up in our heads during the whole day. It also tends to bring out the creative geniuses in us(LOL). We have made some good songs during such times, we come up with crazy ideas such as shooting various videos, one of them names "RETURN OF THE EX's" by stalking one of our friend and filming him when he meets up with his ex's.(haha)
We can talk anything, be it senseless or deep, most of the time being senseless, it's just that we can understand each other so well during that time. It has even inspired many great thoughts that we live by such as "WHEN SOMEONE PULLS YOUR LEG DOWN, JUST KICK HIM ON THE FACE WITH YOUR OTHER LEG" and "THINGS TO THINK MUST BE THOUGHT IN THE WAY THE THOUGHTS COME AND NOT THE WAY THE THINGS ARE" and also "IN THIS WORLD...PEOPLE MIGHT THINK OF U AS MANY THINGS....BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY...ALL THAT MATTERS IS WAT U THINK ABOUT URSELF AND THE DEEDS U DO".
It also includes random chats in between about all the other chats I've mentioned. And the randomness can switch drastically as one minute we are trolling and the next minute we're discussing a spiritual/religious matter and the next moment we are discussing chicks. Though I never think much about the chat we had the next morning, it surely keeps me alive till we get on with it again.
As silly as it may seem to write about a chat, to me this is the best time of the day, when I can be what I am, a silly, easy going, sometimes serious person and that is what keeps me going. Though I know these days won't last long but the remnants of it will always be with me. I remember watching this comedy- drama show called "The Wonder Years” and the epilogue having a very emotional line, "Growing up happens in a heartbeat. One day you're in diapers, the next day you're gone. But the memories of childhood stay with you for the long haul." Though I won't say this is my childhood (LOL) but this line seems so fitting to end this write-up.
All I can hope is to turn on my NIGHTMODE on and chat with him every night!
